A Prospect Heights collective for creative experiments,
renewal, stillness and celebration. Welcome home.
Be. Play. Make. Offer. Join us.
There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and there is only one you in all time. This expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it.
–Martha Graham
Ever thought you’d like to…start a band? Write a book of short stories? Compose an opera? Curate an art show? Craft a live performance? Design a cooking class?
September at The Brooklyn Cottage is an invitation to springboard your way into the belly of whatever creative enterprise has been crying out for your attention. No matter what you’ve got going on right now now and whatever your previous experience or inexperience, your failures or your achievements, it’s an opportunity for “later” to become “now.” As the dancer Martha Graham simply and rightfully observed, if we don’t do it, the world won’t have it. And that would be a big bummer for us all.
So come join us on the white sofa on Thursday, September 25th at 6:30 p.m. for Springboard, the first of a three-part series designed to solidly propel you into the creative work you’ve been thinking about making but haven’t quite known how to get into the groove of. As led by Brooklyn’s own Corinna Snyder, a performance artist of Macedonian music and teacher of leadership skills, we’ll be an intimate, eclectic and as-yet-undiscovered group of eight, and will meet for three hours once a month through November. (Other sessions will convene at the same time on Thursday, October 23rd and Thursday, November 20th.) We’ll think, talk, write, read and respond to each others’ stuff, sharing the goal of invigorating our creative impulses, and discerning our individual paths to concrete creative output. The series is designed for any of us at any age wishing to enter any creative discipline–especially one that might feel uncharted. Students are asked to commit to all three sessions, and the total cost is $150.
We believe each other into being. So come let’s believe.
