Iviva Olenick is a Brooklyn born and based artist, curator, teacher and textile designer. Muriel Guepin Gallery represents her embroidered paintings and sculptures in New York. She has exhibited at additional local and national venues including the Center for Book Arts (NYC), the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Salisbury University (Salisbury, MD), Columbia University, Denise Bibro Fine Art (NYC) and The Brooklyn Cottage. In collaboration with Jenny Douglas, Iviva curates pop up visual art exhibits and performances at the Cottage. “Crafting Home,” their inaugural show, featured nine artists using a range of media—hand woven textiles, pocket-sized cross stitch portraits, a plant-as-poem, embroidered paintings and poems, ink drawings and paintings on paper. The overwhelming attendance and participation confirmed for Jenny and Iviva the power of artists investing in community and the community embracing their work. This spirit of reciprocity, inclusion and support informs their ongoing curatorial work.
